Winterizing Your Boat

It’s been another wonderful boating season! As you enjoy the last few weeks on the water, it’s important to start thinking about preparing your boat for the offseason. Depending on where you’re located, the winter and the elements that come with it can be brutal. Make sure your boat is ready to go this coming spring with these 5 simple steps to winterizing your boat:

1. Flush and drain all systems

    • In order to avoid freezing water, which can expand and result in drain water from the engine cooling systems, plumbing system, or any other system holding water.

2. Remove valuables

    • Boat break-ins can happen during the offseason. Be sure to remove valuables including expensive electronics.

3. Treat the fuel

    • Treating your boat’s fuel with a stabilizer ensures there’s no build-up of varnish and gum which can result in poor start up and engine damage

4. Clean and wax

    • Give your boat a good scrubbing and apply a wax

5. Cover it

    • Having a durable cover that can withstand the harsh weather that comes with winter (snow, wind, moisture) is important for maintaining your boat’s value and life. This will ensure your gelcoat is protected. Our covers are made from polyester and acrylic material and come in 7oz, 9oz, and 9.25 ounce which is going to be able to weather the elements.

The engine, plumbing systems, fuel system, and any system that can hold water are the most important areas you’ll want to concentrate on.
