Every piece of LaPorte outdoor furniture starts with an idea and the people who bring it to life. We design each piece in-house, then build the frames, sew the cushions and canopies, and complete the final assembly, with skilled hands at every step.
It’s a process that pairs thoughtful design and quality materials with hands-on craftsmanship. Come behind the scenes and see how our outdoor furniture and umbrellas come together.
Sales: Where It All Begins

Before anything reaches the production floor, our sales team is there to help.
Whether you’re furnishing a backyard, a poolside retreat, a hospitality property, or a commercial space, they’ll help you navigate the options and find the pieces that fit your needs. From choosing furniture and coordinating fabrics to answering questions about materials, dimensions, care, and delivery, they’re a resource from your first question to the day your order arrives.
They’re also an important link between our customers and the people who make their products.
Design: Created; In-House at LaPorte
Every LaPorte piece starts with our own design team. We design our furniture in-house with comfort, durability, and function in mind, considering every detail, from the proportions of a chair to the construction of an umbrella, before a product ever goes into production.
Designing in-house lets us think beyond how a piece looks. We consider how it will be built, how its materials will hold up outdoors, and how it will function in a real outdoor space.
Once the design is ready, it’s time to bring it to life.
Outdoor Furniture: From Poly Lumber to Finished Piece

Our furniture begins in the poly department, where the frame takes shape. Working with durable Tangent Poly Lumber, the team cuts and prepares each component to the design’s specifications, building the foundation of every piece.
Meanwhile, the fabric takes a different path. On our production floor, our seamstresses turn Sunbrella fabric into the cushions that give each piece its comfort, color, and personality. They know the details matter, from clean seams to a perfect fit.
Eventually, the two paths meet in assembly, where frame and cushions come together as a finished piece of LaPorte furniture.
Umbrellas: From the Machine Shop to the Sewing Floor

Our umbrellas take their own journey through the facility.
It starts in our machine shop, where our team manufactures the frame, the structure at the heart of every umbrella.
At the same time, the canopy takes shape on the production floor, where our seamstresses cut and sew Sunbrella fabric into its finished form. It’s another stage where skilled hands and attention to detail make all the difference.
Once both are complete, frame and canopy meet in our assembly room and become a finished LaPorte Palmetto Umbrella.
Assembly & Shipping: Bringing It All Together
Assembly is where all that work comes together. Frames, cushions, canopies, and other components that have traveled through different parts of our facility arrive in one place, where our team assembles each product and readies it for its next destination.
From there, every product is carefully packaged for pickup, local delivery, or shipping. It’s the final step inside our walls before something made at LaPorte becomes part of someone else’s outdoor space.
Made by People, From Start to Finish
When you look at a finished LaPorte chair, table, cushion or umbrella, you see one product.
We see everyone who helped make it: the team that designed it, the people who build its frame, the seamstresses who sewed its cushion or canopy, the team that assembled it, and the people who prepared it to leave our facility.
Each department brings its own skill to the process, and together they create something distinctly LaPorte.
For 50 years, craftsmanship has been at the heart of what we do. Our products and processes have evolved, but one thing hasn’t changed: real people are behind everything we make. From our workshop to your outdoor space, that’s what it means to be made at LaPorte.
