A Look Into LaPorte- The People: Production Pt. 2: Hemming

We hope you all have enjoyed this series so far and have liked getting to know our team members! In our last blog, you were able to meet part of our production crew: our blanks and webbing and binding team. For this next one, we will be covering our next production sector, hemming.

After our blanks and webbing and binding team has completed their portion of the cover, it then goes to our hemming team. Their first step is to get the cover out of the basket that has been placed there by the previous team. From there, they will start analyzing the work order that is attached to the cover to double check the orientation (port or starboard), make sure the color matches what the customer ordered, and lastly, ensure proper modifications have been made (power poles, jack plate, etc). After this, they will even out the hemline, put on grommets, and sew on our signature T-Top Covers patch.

On our hemming team we have Kirsten, Lindsay, and Kaoru.

If you read our last blog, you’ll remember we mentioned some of those names were on our blanks and webbing and binding team. We value cross training and think it’s important that each of our seamstresses are able to jump from table to table and help out where needed. Most of our production team is able to hem, so there are often times we are shifting team members around.

Our lead hemmer is Kirsten. Kirsten is an MD native and came to us from NYC where she was a fashion designer. She’s even met Tommy Hilfiger!

Without each of our production department sectors, we wouldn’t be able to produce our quality covers, shades, and curtains!

Stay tuned for part 3 of A Look Into LaPorte where we cover our CNC cutting team!
